Their wedding took place 5 days before Christmas at The Suajana with a beautiful setting. It was an all in one day wedding, which also included a 10 minute pre-wedding photography session. The weeks leading up to the wedding day saw torrential rain pouring over Kuala Lumpur and soaked the garden where the wedding was to be held. Janice’s parents, being Christians, prayed and prayed for clear skies and dry garden. That morning, the clouds made way for the clear blue skies and the garden was dry and the grass spread out with all it’s green splendour!

What a great wedding it was!!

This was a very interesting shoot for us. This is not your typical pre-wedding. We like to call it an engagement shoot instead, or a couple shoot. It was free and easy without make up or bridal gowns and tuxedos. Just the couple in their regular outfit, being themselves.

We tried something new in this series of photos. Usually we would use a lot of background to bring out the location or to ensure that the location is known to anyone who looked at that particular photograph. In this series, we took away the background so as to concentrate on the couple themselves. Of course there are some parts of the location which was interesting and thus included in the composition. So there was a little mix and match going on.

Plus we let the couple run loose and allowed them to do their own thing. We only pointed them to a particular place, or do a particular stuff like walking or sitting.

I trust that both Calvin and Jane enjoyed their photoshoot as well.

Calvin is also an avid photographer. And I heard he got himself a nice camera set. Let’s wait till there’s some photos of him with his new camera. In the mean time, here are some of the photos from the photoshoot.

It has always been that way with my work, so I told my self “let take a break and think of something new to shoot”. So I decided to go shoot some flowers pictures since recently I have gotten a Macro lens.

The funny thing is that I never do liked Macro photography as I always thinks that is a time consuming genre which I have no patience of it. But then after a few shots outside of my garden I begin to understand my some people like Macro Photography as it opens up a whole new way in seeing things that we take for granted.

The Full fledge Macro photographer is still not too into it but then applying Macro photography technics with portrait techniques does bring out something interesting. So hope you enjoy.

This first 3 image i shot it in way that it is right against the bright back light. I did it that why is to allow the light to penetrate thru the petals of the flower and shot it with a very shallow depth of field making this picture sharp on the focus area and soft at the back resulting the petals colored up like pastel paint on a canvas……. 

Initially the unit was unable to calculated to the destination but then later it was all good. Once set and we were on our way without a single prob and with time to spare.

Besides the convenience of the device I am a sucker for interior car lights. So when my insatiable thirst for technology clashed with my obsession lights, there was no turning back, I got the Garmin Nuvi 255W personal navigation device. Particularly got this model is because it offers a few additional function, which is the Junction View and also Street mention. Junction View is actually help on complicated junctions were as the street mention is vocally the unit will mention the name of the street that you are about to turn or on.

Another additional Light on my Dash…

Wow! this I like most as it makes my dash look like something from the StarTrek’s Ship.

Sunny and Patricia were great to work with. They had great friends who were also wonderful in front of the camera. I think it is important that subjects are comfortable in front of the camera. This paves the way to even greater photos. Of course a good photographer makes the subject feels comfortable, but only if you have the luxury of time. In our case, or rather in most actual day weddings or engagements, time is usually not a luxury that we have.

The ROM was held at Singapore’s Botanical Garden. A very nice place filled with greens. We arrived at 7am and there where people already starting their morning walks and a group of people doing Tai-Chi. Or maybe they were practising Qi-Gong. After the registration, they headed off to a nice cruise in a yatch. Everything was completed by lunch time and the happy couple ensured that we had a full tummy before letting us off. How considerate of them.

About us

We are two individual photographers who are very intrigued by the artistic side of photography. We love capturing those special moments for you. Be it a wedding or just a simple picnic by the beach or park. We believe that a single photograph may bond with you for many years and many generations to come.

Both of us came from different backgrounds. Jason has been in the advertising industry for about 7 years while John has been in an engineering consultancy firm for about 10 years.  Although the both of us likes technology, cars and of course photography, our choices are rather different in which manifested itself in our photographic works. This brings a varied yet interesting touch to FingerOnShutter. As we shoot as a team, our photos often overlapping on key areas, but leaving enough space for individual creativity. What one lacks, the other makes up.

FingerOnShutter has a combined photographic experience of slightly over 10 years. All through the years, we have individually went places and experience various colourful cultures, met different people from all walks of life and people with all sorts of characters and personalities. Inspired by these colourful people, we picked up our very first cameras and began our photographic journeys individually. After our first collaborative shoot, we found our styles to be contradicting, yet in some special way, complemented each other.

We are currently based in Kuala Lumpur and undertake any photographic assignments or challenges which comes our way. In the mean time, please do browse through our gallery as well as our blog where the latest is updated; our shoots, excursions and such.

Our Styles

The one thing we hold true during a photoshoot; we keep ourselves as invisible as we possibly can. Our style is very much contemporary and impressionist but with a touch of traditional style of portrait-based photography. We prefer spontaneity, and we prefer candid moments. These are the moments which are the essence of that particular moment, that particular day. It’s the essence of who you are. Most of the time we shoot with available light whenever possible. We believe available light brings out the best of the moment and immortalize that particular moment as you remember it. There are at times that we would whip out our flashes for that creative enhanced lighting to fantasize the moment.

We are inspired by the relationship between two people, or the relationship amongst people. It’s the interaction amongst friends and families which we strife to capture. The love that two people share or the open relationship between father and son, or the closeness of mother and child. We do not want you to see a person in a photograph; we want you to feel that person in a photograph, to share his joy, excitement and to a certain extend; sorrow and lost.
